Office Pranks
OFFICE
UNORGANIZED
If you want to mess with one of your coworkers, here’s an easy way to throw them off. Go into their cubicle while they’re out to lunch or after they’ve gone home, and move everything to the side opposite the one it’s currently on. Rehang pictures and posters, move their supplies and papers, you can even switch out their drawers. It’s much easier to see the reaction if they’re your neighbor, because you can just peek over the wall, but if you really want to see them scratch their head, come over and ask for something and watch them reach for it in its old place. Because of the subtlety of the prank, it takes some victims a while to figure out they’ve been duped, so try not to laugh out loud and blow your cover early.
TOILET TROUBLE
The prank potential of employee restrooms is incredibly high. If you want to get a lot of people with your prank, it’s the one room you know everyone uses. Out of order signs are so easy to make, it’s like the company is begging you to mess with your coworkers. For this prank, you will need an out of order sign for all but one stall. For the final stall, you will need a toy snake on a string. While it sounds cheesy, it’s the last thing people expect at the office, and the results are hilarious. Just tape the string to the underside of the toilet lid, lower the snake into the bowl, and close the lid. If you really want to make sure your coworkers use that stall, put red or brown food coloring and some toilet paper in all the stalls with out of order signs. When they lift the lid in the only “working” toilet, it will appear that the snake is rising out of the water, and most people scream and drop the lid before they get a good look at it. Already being in the bathroom is suspicious and will almost certainly give you away, so wait by the water fountain or tag along at the back of the line when everyone goes on a break, and you’ll get to hear the reactions without getting caught.
SHARE AND SHARE ALIKE
We all have fridge gremlins at our office. Here’s a juvenile but satisfying prank to teach yours a lesson. Buy a 12-pack of dark soda—the kind that comes in the cardboard case—and pop the top off. Take out every single can and shake the living delights out of them. Then replace all the cans and place the case in the fridge at work. If they don’t bite on the first day, then remove one can and reshake the rest just to be safe. As soon as you see the telltale stain on their shirt, you know you’ve found your culprit.
AUTO INCORRECT
Here’s a prank with endless potential. A simple change will give your coworker an anxiety attack, while a more detailed one will have them threatening their computer. Simply go into the Auto Correct options page (in Word 2007 this can be accessed by clicking More Commands then Proofreading) and replace a common word with something else. Replace “the” with “sex” and you’ll have them blushing at their involuntary typos. Replace “the” with a common misspelling like “teh” and they might just think they need some sleep. Replace whole words with their texting abbreviations, like “u” for “you” and “n” for “and,” and everything they write will resemble a chat room full of twelve year olds. Not everyone knows about the AutoCorrect option, and even fewer people know where to find it, though the growing popularity of the prank might change that, so dupe your coworkers now while they’re still easy prey.
